Hip Preservation Program

We have multiple locations throughout New York City and Long Island.

Experts with the Hip Preservation Program, part of 秘密研究所 Langone鈥檚 Hip Center, offer advanced, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic options for active people with hip disorders. Our goal is to identify and treat conditions that can lead to hip osteoarthritis and to manage injuries to muscles and tendons that support the hip.

By intervening early with both surgical and non-surgical methods, we correct biomechanical issues and minimize joint damage, improving long-term outcomes.

Benefits of Hip Preservation Surgery

Hip preservation procedures aim to maintain the natural hip joint, prevent or delay osteoarthritis, and improve long-term function and quality of life, especially in younger, active adults. Unlike total hip replacements, preservation techniques correct structural issues while keeping your joint intact.

Sometimes, the structure of the hip joint can lead to injuries and hip damage. Correcting the anatomy can solve underlying hip problems.

The tendons and muscles around the hip are crucial for hip health. Injuries to these structures can lead to significant disability. Repairing and reconstructing hip muscles and tendons can restore function and quality of life.

Hip Conditions We Treat

Our doctors help determine whether you are a candidate for hip preservation surgery, which we typically use to treat these conditions:

Hip Preservation Surgeries We Perform

Our surgeons perform highly precise hip joint surgery using minimally invasive treatments. We may recommend one of the following surgeries as part of your hip care plan:

Our Surgical Expertise

Our surgical team鈥檚 extensive experience in the latest hip preservation treatments includes the following:

  • repairing labrum tissue鈥攖he soft, elastic tissue surrounding the hip joint鈥攐r, when the tissue is not heathy enough to fix, reconstructing the labrum using donor tissue
  • performing osteotomies鈥攂ony realignment procedures鈥攕uch as a periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) of the hip socket and femoral osteotomy of the thigh bone to optimize hip joint biomechanics
  • conducting endoscopic hamstring repairs by making two to four small cuts, avoiding larger, more painful incisions
  • reconstructing chronic or massive tendon injuries, including those of the hip flexor, abductor and hamstring tendons鈥攖he tendons that support the hip joint鈥攅ven if these injuries occurred years ago

Our Hip Preservation Program is a leader in developing treatment guidelines for the safe and effective use of new hip preservation techniques. This work ensures the highest quality of care and best possible outcomes for our patients.
