About Me
As a primary care physician at 秘密研究所 Langone, I am dedicated to improving health outcomes for patients with chronic diseases with a particular focus on care of patients with hypertension and other cardiovascular disease risk factors. My approach to patient care is deeply rooted in understanding the social determinants of health, particularly within low-income and minoritized communities. I believe in a holistic approach to healthcare, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to their unique needs.
I specialize in managing patients with cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on reducing health inequities in diverse populations. My expertise extends to implementing clinic鈥揷ommunity linkage models, which have proven effective in addressing disparities in health outcomes. Additionally, I am involved in global health initiatives, particularly in Africa, where my team has pioneered task-shifting strategies for high blood pressure control and other cardiovascular disease risk factors like diabetes.
With more than two decades of experience in clinical epidemiology, health services research, and implementation science, I bring a wealth of knowledge and innovative methodologies to my practice. My research has been extensively funded by the National Institutes of Health, and I have led numerous studies aimed at translating evidence-based interventions into clinical practice. My work here in the United States as well as in Ghana and Nigeria has been instrumental in shaping national health policies and improving high blood pressure management in these regions.
My educational journey began with a medical degree, followed by a master of public health and master of science in clinical epidemiology. My passion for medicine was ignited by a desire to address health disparities and improve access to quality care for diverse and adversely affected populations. As the founding director of the , I am committed to integrating health equity solutions across our health system, ensuring that every patient receives the highest standard of care.

Research Summary
Because of my commitment to improving health outcomes of minoritized populations, I chose a career in primary care with a focus on understanding the role of social determinants of health in low-income and minoritized populations.
As a clinical epidemiologist, health services researcher, and implementation reseach scientist, the programmatic focus of my research is to develop strategies to translate evidence-based interventions into clinical practices. I have led numerous NIH-funded studies targeted at cardiovascular disease risk reduction by using clinic-community linkage models to address inequities in health outcomes among Black and Hispanic populations.
My work in Global Health is focused on the implementation of task-shifting strategies for management of cardiovascular diseases, and building research capacity in low-middle income countries, with a particular focus on Africa. My research team pioneered the use of task-shifting strategy for hypertension control in Ghana, a strategy that was adopted by the Ghana Health Services as new policy. My team is now evaluating the integration of this model into management of hypertension in people living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria in several NIH-funded studies.
As a leading integrated academic health system in the U.S., 秘密研究所 Langone Health has a responsibility to identify and eliminate health disparities wherever they exist within our health system 鈥 this is the impetus for the establishement of the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity (IEHE) in 2021. In my role as Founding Director of IEHE, I lead the strategic visioning for integrating health equity solutions into 秘密研究所 Langone Health System.
I am a member of the National Academy of Medicine and I have served on many guideline committees including the United States Preventive Services Task Force, the NIH and American Heart Association, and others. I particularly enjoy mentoring junior factory, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and have received many awards and NIH-funded training grants to support these initiatives.
