As an interventional cardiologist in the Congenital Heart Program at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital and �����о��� Langone’s Tisch Hospital, I provide care to infants, children, and adults with a wide range of heart conditions that are often, but not always, present at birth. In additional to providing technical expertise, my goal is to give patients and families the time they need to ask questions and get the answers that ensure they fully grasp their situation.

My interest in medicine began when I was young, growing up far from the nearest hospital. After serious emergencies, the arrival of medical care took a long time, often by helicopter. As a teenager, I volunteered for the local ambulance service, knowing that my family and neighbors counted on immediate care. The lessons learned in helping people navigate serious medical crises—whether in their homes or after accidents on a dark stretch of highway—led me to pursue a life in medicine.

During early medical training, I was captivated by congenital heart disease, accidents of heart development. This led me down a long path, and now I specialize in interventional cardiology, using small tubes or catheters maneuvered through blood vessels to answer diagnostic questions and deliver devices to address defects of the heart and blood vessels. Even now, my experiences as a teenager back home during medical emergencies still influence me; I always remember that patients coming to me are doing so during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

Although this work focuses my attention on the precise execution of interventions inside the hearts of patients under anesthesia, I also enjoy getting to know my patients outside of the operating room. Technical success has its reward, but the greater honor is in being part of children’s lives as they grow up or being a trusted advisor for adults as they navigate life, alongside their heart condition. After being named in Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors” series over many years, I believe that this recognition reflects the blend of expertise, communication, and compassion that is the hallmark of the individualized care I strive to provide.

I take great pride in being able, with my specialized interventional team, to safely provide the best results for our patients, whether closing a defect between the vessels of a premature infant or opening an obstructed great vessel in a 40-year-old man to avoid high-risk surgery.

I also work closely with colleagues in the larger congenital heart program here at �����о��� Langone, including congenital cardiac surgery, cardiac critical care, general cardiology, non-invasive cardiac imaging, heart failure and cardiac transplantation, adult congenital heart disease and cardiac anesthesia. This collaboration allows our center to provide cutting edge, creative, and comprehensive care across the spectrum of congenital heart disease, from infancy through adulthood.
